Our aspirations are your possibilities
University technical colleges (UTCs) are government-funded schools that offer 14–19 year olds a great deal more than traditional schools. An initiative started by The Baker Dearing Trust, UTC’s teach students technical and scientific subjects in a whole new way and are educating the inventors, engineers, scientists and technicians of tomorrow.
The Watford UTC’s specialisms are Computer Science, Travel and Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management. All students will study a BTEC qualification in one of these areas alongside their GCSE’s or A Levels. A full curriculum can be found here.
Our broad range of subjects have been selected to provide special focus on the technical skills, trades and technologies that support the computer and digital communication, hospitality, and tourism industries.
The Watford UTC is sponsored by David Meller and the Meller Educational Trust who successfully sponsor other Academy Schools in the region (Harefield Academy, Bushey Academy, Francis Combe and Hertswood Academy) and Global Academy.
University of Hertfordshire is a co-sponsor alongside an impressive list of business sponsors including Hilton Worldwide, The Grove, Twin Technology, Whistl, and Toshiba.
Emma Loveland is Principal for The Watford UTC and has led activities since our opening in September 2014.
She is joined by Paul Quinn as Associate Principal and Directors, Lorraine Davenport along with Senior Assistant Director Lisa Williams in the Senior Leadership Team.
