As one of our specialist areas, we run 5 different courses in our IT and Computing Department: GCSE Computing, Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), A Level Computing and BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 in IT.

Each Year 10 student will take either the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) or the GCSE in Computer Science and many will choose the BTEC Level 2 in IT as their BTEC Option. Year 12 students can chose to take the A Level or the BTEC in IT, or both.

Why chose IT and Computing at Watford UTC?
The courses themselves are engaging and contemporary, with a focus on topical areas in the field such as cyber security and coding. Each encourages mental versatility, allowing students to put the skills that they learn into practice in independent programming projects relating to real-world problems of their choice. The programmes give students a clear progression into higher education, as they have been designed after consultation with members of BCS, CAS and top universities.
The Watford UTC has close links with local and international IT and Computing Businesses such as Twin Technology, Teleadapt, Toshiba and Fujitsu as well as its link to the School of Computer Science at University of Hertfordshire, which opens the door to exciting placement and experience opportunities for students.
As part of our school-wide Masterclass programme, Watford UTC Computing students get hands-on tutorials and lectures from industry specialists. Below are just some of the experiences our students have attended outside the classroom in the last few years:
- – Computercare Masterclass with Craig Cobb
